About Me

I think the one trait that defines me most is my sense of humor; I think it is probably fair to say it is rather twisted. My husband will say it is very twisted, my family will say it is very normal. To be fair, if you look at my family, my sense of humor is very normal in that context.

There is a funny thing that happens when you get married, there is an entire set of things you realize about your partner that you were unaware of when you were dating. For my husband and me, we realized fairly fast that we really don’t care for the same TV shows (although there are a few things we both do watch). We dealt with this by we each have our own TV and our own DVR.

My Husband and I also disagree about jokes. I think I will put together a joke page one of these days. My husband claims they are not that funny, but I love them. He also doesn’t understand my love of British humor. To think, he doesn’t find Faulty Towers funny. I blame my parents for letting me watch too much PBS BBC broadcasts as a child.

I am the kind of person that likes to make people laugh, and do a fairly good job at it. I took one of those Facebook quizzes; it was the “What will be written on your headstone” one. The result came up “No Vacancy” which I find quite funny and not a bad idea. When I die, I do want something funny written on my grave stone, but I don’t know what that would be at this point.

My sister and I also have this theory, my family lacks a mental filter that prevents us in non-work settings from saying things we probably shouldn’t (usually in the format of a one line zinger), which often land us in trouble.

Sleeping and Me

Well lets start with the reason for the site name. I have been a Chronic Insomniac since I was a teen, and I am at the point that it has been more then half of my life that I have been this way. The result is when I have a really bad spell, I am up in the middle of the night, bored out of my mind.

Now some of my pets don’t mind this as they have gotten useto my sleep schedule and spend the day being lazy bums anyway. (More on the pets later, with their own page.)

My poor husband has to deal with this as well. He has learned to sleep through a lot in the 5+ years we have been married. He has learned (for the most part) my “language” in the morning when I first get up, the earlier I have to get up, the longer I speak it. This is something that my family claims that use to take an hour or so before I spoke real English rather then a series of grunts and half words.

I am truly addicted to diet coke, and have had my doctor tell me that I really should have some form of caffeine in the morning to help me wake up. This is specifically to help me try to stay on schedule. If I didn’t have to work, my natural sleep cycle would rather be more towards the vampire side of things. Sleep during the day and awake at night.

My Family

Well I don’t have a large family, even with my husband’s side included. He is an only child. I have a single sister, who is a twin. She doesn’t really have problems sleeping, which really isn’t fair as both my parents have problems as well. Although she argues that her sleeping problem is her family, especially if we are bored enough to annoy her at 3 am.

I have 7 cousins, and two living Grandparents. My Grandmother is a computer addict, much to the amazement /adornment of my friends. She even has a Facebook and Twitter account (although doesn’t really twitter much). I have two aunts, and one uncle. There is a great cousin and his family (3 kids there) on my Dad’s side of the family.

I am a Sibio, and there are not that many of us in the States. Due to family history, Sibio’s seem to have this built in need to do at least a peak into Genealogy. We do have somewhat of a family tree, however it only goes back to Ellis Island on the Sibio side (my Dad’s side). There is a Sibio group on Facebook even, although it is mostly not in English. My mother’s side actually goes back a bit further.

Technology and my Professional Life

I love that technology can change the way that you get to interact and meet people. My family has been “online” for quite some time, going back to the days of BBS and a internet that didn’t have pictures that displayed. Due to my Dad’s job as a computer programmer, my sister and I were exposed to computers at a young age (well at least for our generation). You might as well plug my sister, father, husband and I directly into the internet. Since college, we have each had our own computer. The internet and a single dial up connection was not fun with a household of three addicts.  There is no way that we could share one now. Thankfully the world of DSL and Cable Internet became reasonable enough for people to use as a household item.

I have a degree in Fine Arts – Photography; however that is not the field I ended up working in. I do take a lot of pictures, primarily of my pets. I went to England for 7 days (although really 6 if you take out time for travel/getting settled in). I took nearly 1000 pictures. Check out the link to my Flickr account if you’re interested.

Due to my massive experience with computers, I landed in the technology field where I now hold the title of “IT Telecom and Compliance Manager” at a major museum. It is a fun job, and a fun place to work. I have great coworkers. I also have the problem of my TV viewing habits often end up with seeing other staff members of the museum on TV, which is really a weird thing if you think about it.

As part of my job, I deal with the phone system. This was something I never really expected, although the cell phone side of things is really an interesting world. The idea of a traditional phone that just makes phone calls and can do text messages is going to be a think of the past in a relatively short time period. I have seen many people say that “Smart Phones” as terminology isn’t going to exist in the next five years. We will get to a point that every phone is a smart phone, and that it will simply revert back to being your phone.

If you asked me what I rather give up for a day, my wallet or my phone. It would be my wallet. I have a Droid, and like many other Droid owners I know, I am completely addicted to it.
